It’s Hey Cooper! Actually its BRIBRIBRIBRI.
I have been seeing Bri around ever since I started shooting local bands. I thought their name was Cooper because every time I saw him I always heard someone shouting HEY COOPER! Then I saw them in another brand. I felt a bit sad because I really enjoyed the Hey Cooper show I saw, then I saw them in a third band… and it finally dawned on me. People can be in more than one band at a time.
Bri is someone I have been meaning to reach out to since I started this little project. They were someone I always saw out and about doing stuff. I have no idea why it took me so long to actually reach out but I am glad I did.
I named this project conversations because I wanted something relaxing, I didn’t want to be stuffy and clinical. Bri and I just kind of chatted a bit with no real focus on anything, I was just happy to sit down with someone I have seen so much of but never actually talked with.
When I meet with people I generally ask them what they do for work. I think it’s always interesting because you never know, and it's a big part of their lives. I generally don’t talk about it because its separate from the reason I met up with them. Now if I ever have a sit down with the mayor, I am sure I will probably talk about their job.
Up until this point, I assumed that Bri was a full time artist. I saw Bri a few weeks ago working the door at the Ox, they are in about 93 bands, and they book shows. Thats a fucking lot. One of the amazing things for me seeing Bri play live is how open and energetic they are. Now I find out they have a nine to five job also? Honestly blown away, humbled, amazed. It makes me want to step up and get more involved in my own art and push myself more.
I know this probably reads a bit too hallmark, so what. Every time I sit down with people for this little project I am curious on how they make it work. Art, music, and passion projects are not easy. They simply do make it work though.
It’s inspiring and motivating to see all these people simply making it work.
