I have known Wild for a little bit but this is the first time we really got to sit down and talk. I am writing this at home, but we met at their Dark Dance Party at the Atlantic before it got started. I feel like I should put a disclaimer here, while I am not part of the Goth culture, I have always had a love for the aesthetics and community of it.
If you don’t know Wild, they are an organizer in the Goth community and a local DJ. They are a Gainesville native but moved around a lot and never spent too much time in one location. They have now settled down in Gainesville, and I personally think we are all better for it. When we sat down I told them I felt like I only really knew three things about them. First, is that they are a DJ, second is their connection to the Goth community, and third is their lifestyle posts. Now I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to ask about their personal life and lifestyle, but they are unabashedly public about it so I want to talk about it some. It’s not that their lifestyle is so unusual, but how open they are about it and how powerful their message is.
Wild just had their two year anniversary as a DJ on September 1st. They actually have a cool story on how they got started. They were invited to DJ by the lead singer of Last Grasp, at first they were pretty adamant that they were not a DJ and at that point would simply set up play lists for Goth events they hosted. With some encouragement from DJ friends within a month of being asked to do it, they had their first event. This seemed to be a pretty important moment for them. Wild goes on to tell me how important dance is and how it helped them gain a creative area to dive into outside of painting.
Now I don’t know if Wild is a main organizer, or one of the main organizers of Goth events in Gainesville, but from my perspective they are putting in the work. It’s easy to assume they are organizing events because they want more goth events to go to. This of course is true, but doesn’t even scratch the surface of what they are trying to accomplish. Wild is a deeply caring person and recognizes the need for these events for goths to get out and socialize with each other. In this day and age it's too easy to sit at your house and isolate yourself. Wild went as far as creating Goth Outings where people can meet up outside of the scene and get to know each other to try and build up the community. Point being, they are out there trying to make the goth community strong, healthy, and safe. That's pretty cool.
Wild is pretty open about their Polyamory. It’s not something that really needs to be written about, they does have a pretty amazing take on relationships that I do think needs to be talked about. The Relationship Anarchist Manifesto, Wild describes it as “deprioritizing romantic relationships and making all relationships important”. I think this is pretty important, there is something great about finding “your person” but there is also something great about putting energy into all your relationships and not just your romantic ones.
At the end of the day, Wild is an amazing person with a great perspective and beat.
